Facts About Toilet Water Wastefulness

Every day, thousands upon thousands of people flush their toilet in their homes, offices, stores, and factories and are unaware of just how much water they’re actually using when the toilet is malfunctioning. The Water Department in a city of Jackson, Michigan has put together a few facts about this water wastefulness. There are also some ways you can spare the water usage that your latrine does use. Visit our facebook page to learn more about how you can stop wasting water unnecessarily.

Old Toilets

Today, the oldest toilets use an average of 3 to 5 gallons of water with each flush. Figure the cost of a new low-flow toilet verses the cost of water your toilet is wasting and you would be saving money just by buying a new toilet!

Low-Flow Toilets

Low-flow toilets cut that usage in 1/2, ringing in at 1.6 to 2 gallons per flush. A low-flush toilet (or low-flow toilet or high-efficiency toilet) is a flush toilet that uses significantly less water than a full-flush toilet. Low-flush toilets use 4.8 litres (1.3 US gal; 1.1 imp gal) or less per flush, as opposed to 6 litres (1.6 US gal; 1.3 imp gal) or more.

Toilet Flushings

The average toilet is flushed 8 times each day! Now that number seems low to me. The amount of flushes your’s will endure depends on the number of people in your household. The larger the family and guests you have, the more the flushes it will be. Imagine you have a large party and everyone uses the bathroom quite a few times. This party just got expensive!

Displacing Water

Displacing water in the tank can save 1 to 2 gallons per flush, or 5,800 gallons per year with a displacement bag or plastic bottle. Checking on prices for these can range from $3 to $7 depending on where you sourced it at. Though there is another cheaper remedy as shown below.

By simply filling a used pop bottle or any container and placing it in the tank, will create water displacement and use less water to fill your potty tank to the designated or appropriate line needed to flush it properly.

Leaking Toilets

Leaky toilets can waste up to 22,000 gallons of water per year! That will be costing you lots of extra money in your water bill and the use of your water pump kicking on and off. Water pumps have been known to fail just due to a leaks. Ever price a water pump? It’s like in the $1,400 range if not more!

Are you flushing your money down the drain?

Check your potty out to see that there are no leaks, it’s not draining back down the overflow tube and that the handle is proper. We all know about the “gotta jiggle the handle” trick. There is a device called the POTTYMISER that will save you money so all these wasteful water problems will lead to you keeping more money in your pocket!
